Ms.
Gillie Robson, LWCMD
- Qualified and experienced female tutor offering
piano, violin, harp, keyboard, music theory,
improvisation and sound creation tuition.
Based in Powys, Mid Wales. Over 25 years of
musical experience.
One-on-One tuition allows
the student to progress at a rate suited to
each individual. Exams (all levels, ABRSM
and Trinity) are catered for and although
students are not required to undertake any
exams, support and guidance is obviously given
if they desire to. All ages and levels welcome.
Individuals (and small groups) interested
in learning and creating music for fun are
also welcome.
Classical, jazz, blues, C.20th/modern, folk,
musicals and popular styles catered for -
beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
Ensemble work is encouraged at all levels
and duet work forms an important part of the
lessons. Improvisation is an important and
rewarding area of music performance - allowing
the student freedom to express themselves
without restrictions, whilst gaining a valuable
insight into the workings of their instruments.
Students are urged to at least "have a go"!
even improvising on something other than their
studied instrument - the body/voice has numerous
possibilities, and everyday objects are instruments
of music and sound, it's learning to use them
creatively which makes the difference.

Discover | Create | Perform |
Music - an
indispensable part of most peoples lives,
and more beneficial to our physical and mental
health than it may at first appear:
- Keyboard
music training is known to improve skills
which require mental imagery
- Performing
music in an ensemble environment teaches
us to interact, listen and respond to others
- Improvisation
and Composition open up the imaginative
and creative persona
- The (piano)
music of Mozart has scientifically been
proven to calm the brain waves of an epileptic
- and Music
Therapy is at last gaining the recognition
and support it deserves.

A Skill For Life |
Learning to play a musical instrument
is very rewarding. Yes, it takes alot of effort
and time - especially if you decide to make
a career of it - but the rewards are worth it!
However, there are also many physical dangers
and injuries lurking for the unsuspecting musician,
but with knowledge of the warning signs and
sensible practise these can at least be minimised.
From past experiences myself, I have come to
respect the body, and all students under my
tuition are made aware of the dangers, the warning
signs and the pitfalls along the way.
There is immense strain on both the mental and
physical bodies of musicians and performers
- anyone reading this who has had to prepare
for a concert or competition, or attended day
long rehearsals with the orchestra, will undoubtedly
agree - which is why the need for physical and
mental health knowledge is essential! NEVER
listen to those who say "no pain, no gain" -
you'll only end up injuring yourself further,
if not irreparably! If you are suffering, seek
medical advice - there are some wonderful alternative
treatments out there too: acupunture (or acupressure
if you really hate needles) is amazing!
